Flanged Butterfly Valve Installation Instructions and Installation Precautions

Flanged butterfly valves act as key parts in industrial piping setups. These valves have a small and neat design. This allows good flow control and very little pressure loss when completely open.

Main structural parts include:
Body with built-in flanges at both ends for straight bolting.
Eccentric disc-shaft setup (single, double, or triple offset) to cut down wear and torque.
Bi-directional ability in many versions, with zero leakage in resilient-seated types.

Types of Flanged Butterfly Valve

Double Flange Type Butterfly Valve

Double flange butterfly valves feature flanges on both sides for direct bolting.
Designs often incorporate single, double, or triple offset geometries to reduce torque and improve sealing.
Materials typically include ductile iron or cast iron bodies, stainless steel or ductile iron discs, and EPDM/PTFE seats.
These valves support bi-directional flow and zero leakage in many cases.

U Flange Type Butterfly Valve

U flange types butterfly valve offer a single-sided flange or specialized U-shaped connection for compact installations.

These provide easier alignment in tight spaces while maintaining flanged security.

They share similar material options and standards as double flange models.

Triple Offset Flanged Butterfly Valve

Advanced flanged butterfly valves include high-performance designs with triple offset butterfly valve.
These reduce operating torque and enhance sealing through cam-like action that lifts the disc away from the seat during rotation.
Triple offset models feature a conical sealing surface, achieving metal-to-metal contact with minimal wear.

Flanged Butterfly Valve Installation Steps

Follow these steps in order for a safe and good installation.
1.Place the valve between the two pipe flanges. Line up the bolt holes exactly. Keep the disc a bit open (about 5-10%) to stop seat harm during setup.
2.Put bolts and nuts through the flange holes. Tighten them by hand at first. This holds everything and lets you fix the flange position for even touch.
3.If the flanges need welding to the pipe, do spot welds first with the valve there for correct alignment. Then take the valve out carefully.
4.Finish full welding of flanges to the pipe after taking it out. Let the welds cool all the way. This stops heat bending or harm to close parts.
5.Put the valve back in after cooling. Make sure enough space exists around the disc. It must turn fully without hitting anything. The pipe needs to leave room for the disc to open all the way.
6.Center the valve properly. Tighten bolts slowly in a crisscross or star shape. This spreads pressure evenly. Do not tighten too much. That can bend the seat or raise operating torque.
7.Open and close the valve several times from full shut to full open. Check for smooth and clear movement. Change bolt torque if needed. Then check again.

Conclusion

Correct installation of flanged butterfly valves brings the best flow control, tight sealing, and system dependability in many industrial fields.
For high-quality flanged butterfly valves, including U-type and double flange designs in ductile iron, stainless steel, and various seat materials compliant with API, DIN, and ANSI standards, FLUIDO stands out as a trusted manufacturer, supplier, and factory.

FAQS

Can flanged butterfly valves be installed in any orientation?

Yes. Most models allow horizontal, vertical, or diagonal shaft positions. Vertical setup with the actuator pointing up helps long life in some situations.
